Diraq inaugurates a new commercial quantum computing laboratory in Sydney, Australia, marking a significant stride in advancing fault-tolerant quantum computing. Situated at the UNSW campus, the lab boasts cutting-edge infrastructure to facilitate the production of silicon chips housing billions of qubits. The facility spans 200 square meters (2152 sq. feet) and is equipped with state-of-the-art cryogenic testing and precision measurement equipment for silicon quantum devices. Diraq’s CEO, Andrew Dzurak, emphasized the company’s focus on developing highly integrated silicon chips through standard semiconductor foundries, aligning with its mission to revolutionize quantum computing. Supported by substantial funding, including grants from the U.S. Army Research Office and Australian Government including the CRC-P and QCCF, Diraq aims to harness existing chip fabrication technology to realize the transformative potential of quantum computing on a commercial scale.
