Equal1 and the Irish Centre for High-End Computing (ICHEC) have announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing High Performance Computing and Quantum Computing (HPC-QC) in Ireland and Europe. This agreement is set to drive technical innovation, address complex scientific and industrial challenges, and maintain global competitiveness. The collaboration will see both organizations engage with stakeholders to seek national-level funding and support for HPC-QC operations and services.
The partnership will focus on promoting HPC-QC as a strategic priority, leveraging national and European programs for research and development on Equal1’s quantum computers through 2026. Joint R&D projects will aim to integrate HPC and QC systems, enhancing Ireland’s ability to deploy these platforms and services in alignment with national and EU strategies.
Venkatesh Kannan, Associate Director at ICHEC, emphasized the potential of this partnership to develop HPC-QC software infrastructure and strengthen Ireland’s position in international R&I activities. Jason Lynch, CEO of Equal1, highlighted the collaboration’s role in propelling Ireland and Europe to the forefront of the global quantum technology race, making quantum computing more accessible and practical.
