IonQ has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Intellian Technologies, a South Korea-based global provider of satellite communication antennas, to explore the integration of quantum networking into satellite communications. The collaboration will focus on evaluating secure satellite-to-satellite and ground-to-satellite communications using quantum technologies, as well as potential applications such as quantum time synchronization as an alternative to GPS.

The agreement builds on IonQ’s long-term engagement in South Korea’s quantum ecosystem. Previous milestones include partnerships with major South Korean institutions such as Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, and SK Telecom, as well as joint research efforts with Hyundai Motor Company on battery optimization and autonomous vehicle technologies. IonQ has also participated in national initiatives including the Quantum Korea conference and multiple hackathons aligned with the country’s National Quantum Strategy.

This partnership with Intellian further expands IonQ’s footprint in South Korea, underscoring its strategy to support the development of quantum-secure communication infrastructure globally. Intellian’s satellite ground terminal expertise complements IonQ’s capabilities in quantum computing and networking, positioning both companies to explore new approaches for integrating quantum technology into space-based communication systems.
