Jij Inc., a Tokyo-based provider of quantum optimization technologies, has established its first overseas subsidiary, Jij Europe Ltd., in the United Kingdom. Located within the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, the new office will serve as a hub for expanding Jij’s global presence and fostering collaboration with the UK’s quantum ecosystem. Additionally, Jij has been accepted as a member of UKQuantum, a leading UK consortium dedicated to advancing quantum technologies.

The establishment of Jij Europe Ltd. aligns with growing bilateral cooperation between Japan and the UK in quantum technologies. This collaboration is supported by initiatives such as the Economic 2+2 dialogue framework and the APAC UK Quantum Programme, which aim to strengthen ties between the two nations in emerging technologies. Jij has also partnered with UK-based ORCA Computing to develop optimization algorithms for photonic quantum computers, leveraging the UK’s leadership in quantum research and commercialization.

Jij Europe Ltd. plans to hire approximately 20 researchers and engineers over the next three years to support its expansion in the UK and European markets. The subsidiary will collaborate with key UK institutions, including the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) and UKQuantum, to promote the industrialization of quantum technologies and address global challenges. Jij’s membership in UKQuantum positions it alongside notable members such as IBMGoogle Quantum AI, and Quantinuum, further solidifying its role in the global quantum ecosystem.
