Nu Quantum has partnered with CERN to use White Rabbit (WR) technology, a precision timing system initially developed to synchronize particle accelerators. WR provides sub-nanosecond synchronization, a critical requirement for enabling entanglement in large-scale quantum networks. This collaboration makes Nu Quantum the first quantum-focused company to join CERN’s White Rabbit Collaboration, aimed at promoting industry adoption of WR technology.

Nu Quantum’s Quantum Networking Unit (QNU), set to launch in 2025, will employ WR technology to coordinate timing across multiple quantum nodes. The QNU will serve as a control interface that links quantum processors into a cohesive network, addressing scalability challenges by separating control and quantum planes. This modular approach allows the QNU to adapt to different quantum modalities and incorporate future photonics improvements.

The adoption of WR highlights Nu Quantum’s effort to build data-center-scale quantum systems capable of high connectivity and synchronization. This partnership exemplifies CERN’s initiative to support quantum technology applications, aligning with Nu Quantum’s goal of creating scalable quantum networking solutions for industrial and research applications.
