Quantum Computing, Inc. (QCi) has announced the sale of its quantum LiDAR prototype to Johns Hopkins University, marking a significant breakthrough in underwater LiDAR technology. Valued at $200,000, the prototype boasts a remarkable resolution of 3mm and operates at depths of up to 30 meters. It utilizes single-photon detection technology, coupled with a green laser at 532nm wavelength, strategically chosen for its superior penetration of water.
This system enables precise underwater imaging and measurement of faint signals bounced back by single photons, enhancing sensitivity to an exceptional degree. The collaboration with Johns Hopkins aims to advance environmental and oceanographic studies, providing detailed insights into phytoplankton movement, nutrient distribution, and water behavior under varying conditions. This development aligns with QCi’s mission of delivering practical and affordable quantum technologies for diverse applications.
