QuantWare, a supplier of quantum processing units (QPUs), has announced the opening of operations in Seoul, South Korea, as part of its international expansion strategy. The company is currently the largest supplier of quantum processors in Korea, having served the local quantum ecosystem for several years.
QuantWare’s Open Architecture quantum processors power multiple quantum computers in the country, including the system at Korea’s Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). The company’s core technology, VIO 3D scaling architecture, is designed to implement ultra-high-speed, MegaQubit-class quantum processors and boost power efficiency.
The expansion is intended to help the local quantum industry develop its talent base by providing access to on-the-ground hardware. This aligns with Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT’s mission of training a target of 12,500 quantum professionals. The Korean government is planning an investment of approximately 3 trillion KRW ($2 billion USD) toward building a world-class quantum industry.
Matt Rijlaarsdam, CEO of QuantWare, stated that the region is highly strategic, and the operational base is intended to meet the technological demand as the domestic industry grows into a global quantum economy hub.
