SemiQon, a Finnish provider of silicon quantum dot chips, has announced a new strategic partnership with Nanoacademic Technologies, a Canadian developer of advanced quantum simulation tools. The collaboration aims to accelerate research and education in scalable silicon-based quantum technologies by offering bundled access to SemiQon’s hardware and Nanoacademic’s QTCAD® simulation software.
The bundled solution will combine SemiQon’s ready-to-use spin-qubit chips, marketed under the SemiQit brand, with QTCAD®, a finite-element modeling tool optimized for semiconductor spin qubits. Also included is QTCAD® EDU, an educational version of the software designed for student training. These tools enable researchers to simulate device behavior using atomistic and quantum mechanical models, reducing reliance on trial-and-error fabrication methods.
The partnership is built around a shared vision for scalable quantum computing. According to Félix Beaudoin, CEO of Nanoacademic, the collaboration addresses a “critical need” for accessible, commercial-grade modeling platforms tailored to the specific requirements of spin qubit systems. SemiQon’s Business Development Director Yukihisa Tsuruta emphasized that this integrated approach supports both academic and applied research, lowering barriers for institutions entering the field.
The SemiQit platform, priced starting at €15,000 ($17,000 USD), is designed for plug-and-play usability and comes with datasheets, technical support, and pre-tested packaged devices. It has already seen uptake at leading universities in Switzerland, India, and Finland, where researchers cite its rapid iteration cycle and reliability as key enablers of quantum experimentation.
The bundled hardware and software package will be available to universities, national labs, and corporate research teams beginning in Q3 2025. The partnership reflects both firms’ focus on accelerating the adoption of silicon spin qubit technologies while helping train the next generation of quantum scientists.
