ORCA Computing, a leader in quantum computing, has partnered with Toyota Tsusho Corporation, a member of the Toyota Group, to provide PT Series photonic quantum systems to customers in Japan and the Asia Pacific region. Toyota Tsusho, a long-time advocate of quantum technologies, will leverage its customer ecosystem to deploy ORCA’s systems, enabling organizations to harness quantum-enhanced capabilities for transformative applications. As a member of the Toyota Group, Toyota Tsusho has deep connections with the automotive group and has already been working with Orca to identify potential applications for Orca’s technology. The collaboration aims to integrate ORCA’s quantum computing solutions with classical high-performance computing (HPC) and generative AI, targeting industries such as automotive, chemicals, and Industry 4.0.
ORCA’s PT Series systems combine quantum computing with generative AI, offering innovative solutions to complex challenges while addressing rising costs and power consumption in classical computing. The company has already achieved nine total installations of its PT series of processors. The current version is known as PT-2 and support 32 qumodes and the company is working on a next generation PT-3 that will support 80 qumodes. The company has designed its machines to be field programmable so an early customer who originally purchase an 8-qumode PT-1 would be able to upgrade their system to a PT-2 and later the PT-3. Orca’s technology is photonic based, so it does work differently than other modalities and uses Qumodes instead of Qubits for the information. The company provides its own SDK for programming the system and customers who are familiar with programming applications using the PyTorch libraries can readily adapt to Orca’s system. Typical applications where Orca processors are used include quantum optimization, machine learning, and generative AI.
Takashi Matsuda, Manager of Toyota Tsusho’s Enterprise IT Department, stated, “This partnership empowers leading organizations to transform industries by leveraging quantum computing.” Richard Murray, CEO of ORCA Computing, added, “Our PT Series systems are designed to deliver accessible and usable quantum technology today, not just in the future.”
This partnership builds on ORCA’s momentum in delivering quantum systems to global clients, including Montana State University, the UK Ministry of Defence, and the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.
