Diraq, an Australian quantum computing firm and DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI) Stage A performer, has signed a letter of intent to join the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP) as a future tenant. While the IQMP campus is under development, Diraq will begin operations through the IQMP’s On-Ramp Program, gaining access to cryostats, control electronics, lasers, and 2,000 square feet of research space in the Chicago area.

Diraq develops silicon quantum dot spin qubits fabricated with standard CMOS technology, targeting compact, cost-effective systems for scalable quantum computing. The company was recently selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to lead the Quandarum project in collaboration with Fermilab, focused on ultraprecise quantum sensing. The company’s participation in DARPA’s QBI program includes a six-month concept phase and potential follow-on R&D under Stage B.

The IQMP, launched with $140 million in state matching funds, will host key quantum initiatives, including the Quantum Proving Ground and National Quantum Algorithm Center, alongside anchor tenant PsiQuantum. Diraq’s presence at IQMP reflects its growing U.S. footprint, with recent expansions into Silicon Valley and Boston, and aligns with Illinois’ strategy to establish a global quantum computing hub.
