Paris-based quantum computing company Quandela has launched Belenos, a 12-qubit photonic quantum computer now available via cloud access to over 1,200 users across 30 countries. The system delivers 4,000 times more computing power than Quandela’s previous 6-qubit version released in 2022, and is expected to be integrated into a EuroHPC/GENCI supercomputing facility at France’s TGCC by late 2025.
Belenos is part of Quandela’s Roadmap 2030, which targets 40 photonic qubits within three years. The next-generation system, Canopus, is slated for 2026 and will double the current qubit count, representing a 16 million-fold increase in power compared to 2022. Quandela emphasizes real-world use cases including electromagnetic simulation, combustion modeling, and image classification, citing successful tests in AI applications during the 2024 BMW-Airbus challenge.
Roughly 25% of Belenos users already come from the commercial sector, indicating growing industry adoption. According to Quandela, the system’s computational speed makes it suitable for quantum machine learning and hybrid HPC workloads. The company’s roadmap continues to target scalable photonic architectures for integration with classical HPC environments.
