Chalmers University Receives 102 Million Swedish Krona ($10M USD) to Make Available a Quantum Computer for Swedish Industry

2023-12-14T17:41:44-08:00

The Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) at Chalmers University has developed a 25 qubit quantum processor which they are using and experimenting with internally. However, it is not available for use by external users in industry because the Chalmers researchers are constantly working with it. To solve this problem, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation will be providing Chalmers with a grant of 102 Million Krona to build a second processor and make it available to other users in Sweden over the cloud. The purpose of this second processor will be to serve as a test bed and raise Sweden’s [...]

Xanadu Receives $40 Million CAD ($29.8M USD) from the Canadian Government’s Strategic Innovation Fund

2023-12-14T17:41:47-08:00

Announced during a visit to Xanadu by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the investment will help the company build and commercialize a photonic-based, fault-tolerant quantum computer. The investment is part of the Canadian Quantum Strategy that we reported on earlier this month. Almost half of the $360 million CAD budgeted for that program is intended for commercialization. Additional information about this Xanadu investment can be found in a press release posted on the website of the Canadian Prime Minister here. January 23, 2023

QuSecure Introduces QuEverywhere, a Quantum-safe Orchestration Solution

2023-12-14T17:41:50-08:00

QuEverywhere is an end-to-end feature of the QuProtect software solution from QuSecure that is designed to provide quantum resilient connections without any user installations. It would be particularly handy for mobile or IOT installations where doing a software upgrade on all the devices in an enterprise could be particularly laborious. The solution utilizes PQC (Post Quantum Cryptography) algorithms which are compliant with NIST's latest recommendations and the solution is also designed to be crypto-agile so that the algorithms can be upgraded in the future if better ones are needed. QuSecure indicated that Swiss based VeroWay, a company that delivers high-performance, blockchain [...]

IonQ to Open a 65,000 Square Foot Manufacturing Facility in Washington State

2023-12-14T17:41:52-08:00

New IonQ Facility in Bothell, Washington. Credit: IonQ IonQ previously mentioned a plan to establish a manufacturing facility in the Seattle area in their Q2 Earning Release and conference call and they have now announced it will be located in a 65,000 square foot (about 6,000 square meter) facility in Bothell, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. This facility will become IonQ's primary production engineering facility and will also house the company's second data center. This location makes a lot of sense for IonQ since their machines are already available on the cloud services of Amazon, Microsoft, and Google which also have [...]

Quside Receives Venture Investment from German Firm TRUMPF Ventures

2023-12-14T17:41:53-08:00

Although the exact amount of the investment from TRUMPF Ventures was not specified, it is said to be in the single-digit millions of euros. Quside is a startup located near Barcelona, Spain and founded in 2018 as a spinout from ICFO. They provide very high speed quantum random number generators (QRNG) with performance in the Gb/second range. Their devices are used to create highly random number streams for use in encryption and certain simulation applications. The devices provide random numbers with high entropy since they are based upon quantum mechanical properties and they are also low in power because they are [...]

Xanadu and Rolls Royce Collaborate to Add New Functionality to Xanadu’s Pennylane Software

2023-12-14T17:41:55-08:00

Pennylane is a Python-based open-source software framework that provides algorithm libraries for applications including quantum machine learning, quantum chemistry, and quantum computing. It is hardware agnostic and supports many different quantum hardware backends. Xanadu and Rolls-Royce will be working together to develop new functionality that supports a new algorithm for Pennylane called the Quantum Singular Value Transformation (QSVT). This algorithm may be useful for a number of important potential aerospace quantum computing applications including materials chemistry and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This is the second such partnership related to quantum software that Rolls-Royce has been involved in. Last October, software company Classiq [...]

Qrypt and Megaport Demonstrate Quantum Secure Communications Using Qrypt Key Generation Technology

2023-12-14T17:41:58-08:00

Megaport is a global digital networking company that provides a Network as a Service (NaaS) platform. They connect about 795 data centers worldwide including major cloud services from AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and many others. Qrypt is a startup developing quantum secure solutions using its own technology based upon never directly transmitting keys and ensuring that all keys are completely random using Quantum Random Number Generators (QRNG) to ensure complete entropy. Their approach to providing quantum secure communications is different from some of the others since they do not use the Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and their approach is based [...]
