memQ has received seed funding from the lead investor Quantonation, Exposition Ventures, and the George Schultz Innovation Fund to develop of an on-chip quantum repeater built on the company’s solid-state platform for the quantum internet. A repeater is needed to send a quantum photon over a long distance over fiber optic cable and a key component for a quantum repeater is a quantum memory which can store a qubit’s state for an extended period of time. memQ is using a rare earth based (Erbium) technology with their silicon-on-insulator platform to create this quantum memory. The company is currently being incubated at Chicago’s Duality Quantum Accelerator. Additional information can be seen in a press release provided by memQ here.
