PensionDanmark has invested $10 million in Atom Computing, a U.S.-based quantum computing company, positioning its members to benefit from the rapidly growing quantum computing sector. Quantum computers, which solve complex problems beyond the reach of traditional supercomputers, are projected to hold immense commercial potential, with an estimated market value in the hundreds of billions annually.
Atom Computing, which developed the world’s first gate-based quantum computing platform with over 1000 qubits in 2023. The Export & Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO) had also announced in June a 70 million DKK ($10.2 Million USD) investment in Atom Computing and that the company is now establishing its European headquarters in Copenhagen. This aligns with Denmark’s long-standing tradition in quantum science, dating back to Niels Bohr’s atomic model from 1913.
Peter Stensgaard Mørch, CEO of PensionDanmark, highlighted the investment’s potential to significantly boost returns on pension savings, supporting Denmark’s ambitions to remain at the forefront of the global quantum technology landscape. Atom Computing has also partnered with Microsoft to develop the world’s most powerful fault-tolerant quantum supercomputer, expected to revolutionize fields such as simulation, optimization, AI, and cybersecurity.
