Digital Catapult has launched a new cohort for its Quantum Technology Access Programme, designed to help industry leaders leverage quantum computing for solving complex challenges. Seven prominent companies, including end users BAE Systems and Vodafone, are participating in this initiative aimed at boosting innovation in key UK sectors such as telecommunications, defense, and transport. The program offers tailored consultancy and access to cutting-edge quantum systems, supporting applications like sustainability and efficiency improvements.
The initiative is part of the broader Innovate UK-funded Quantum Data Centre of the Future project, which explores embedding quantum computers in classical data centers. Notable quantum partners include ORCA Computing, Riverlane, and PQShield. In its inaugural phase, the program reported a 26% increase in industry confidence about quantum technologies, attracting leading players like Rolls Royce and Airbus.
This year’s cohort is tackling diverse use cases. Vodafone, for example, is exploring quantum solutions for the NP-Hard Steiner Tree problem to optimize telecom networks. Other participants, such as Autonomia and ZF Automotive, are applying quantum techniques in energy systems and mobility innovations, respectively.
As quantum technology is projected to make significant contributions to the global economy in the coming decades, initiatives like this aim to strengthen the UK’s position in the growing quantum landscape and bridge the gap between innovation and industrial adoption.
