The Quantum Research Institute will perform research on quantum technologies as well as expand the quantum academic curriculum at the university. It will leverage research strengths the university already possesses in the areas of quantum matter and quantum light. The $50 million in funding will be used to support both people and lab space. Twenty University of Michigan faculty fellows will join the institute with plans to recruit an addition eight new members. The co-directors of the institute will be Steven Cundiff, the Harrison M. Randall Collegiate Professor of Physics, and Mack Kira, a professor of electrical engineering and computer science. Additional information about this new Quantum Research Institute is available in a news release provided by the University of Michigan here.
