AWS and Harvard to Collaborate on Quantum Networking Research

2023-05-09T13:26:40-07:00

Amazon Web Services (AWS) will provide funding to the Harvard Quantum Initiative for a three year program of faculty-led research into key technologies used in quantum networking including quantum memories, integrated photonics, and quantum materials. Part of the funding will also be used to upgrade the quantum fabrication capabilities of the NSF-supported Center for Nanoscale Systems at Harvard. Associated with these efforts at Harvard, AWS will also be researching quantum memory technology at the newly formed AWS Center for Quantum Networking. Quantum memories are a particularly important component for quantum repeaters which are needed to enable the long distance transmission of photonic qubits. [...]

Team Led by Wave Photonics Receives £500,000 ($580K USD) Award for Packaging of Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits

2023-05-09T13:26:41-07:00

The award was made by the Innovate UK project to a team led by startup Wave Photonics with partners Alter Technology TUV NORD UK, Senko Advanced Components, University of Southampton, and the University of Bristol. The project will last for one year as the team works to create design templates and simplify the development of packaging for Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (QPICs). QPICs can be manufactured using semiconductor manufacturing techniques which can allow them to be made reliably at high volumes. However, up until now the packaging of these QPI devices has not been standardized so customization of the packaging is [...]

Qphox Signs A Second Deal to Network Superconducting Processors; Now with IQM

2023-05-09T13:26:46-07:00

We reported in June that Qphox is collaborating with Quantware to provide a way to network muiltiple superconducting processor chips together. They call their technology a  Quantum Modem™, a quantum transducer that will couple microwave and optical photons through a mechanical intermediary resonator. This allows qubit information to be routed through a room temperature fiber optic cable to a separate quantum processing chip. Qphox has now announced a partnership with Finnish company IQM, one of the leading quantum processor startups in Europe. Several companies are pursuing various forms of multiprocessing in order to scale up the number of qubits needed to [...]
